CFU hits a chord at PWAC national conference | Print |  E-mail
The Canadian Freelance Union's message was enthusiastically greeted by attendees at the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) national convention in Ottawa recently.

Peter Murdoch, CEP VP (media) and Michael OReilly, CFU President, presented the case for a new freelance union. While OReilly talked about the need for freelancers to act collectively in the face of ever-declining rates and increasing rights demands, Murdoch explained this fight went to the very heart of the craft of journalism.

Full-time people and freelancers are facing the same fundamental issues in the workplace. It is only by standing together that we can truly address them.

It was heartening to see that, by a show of hands, virtually all of the nearly 100 people in the room were either CFU members, or were planning to join.
