Freelance

Jonathan Ahee – Local 700-M

Jonathan started working in the Film & Television production industry ten years ago at age eighteen as a Special Effects assistant to help pay for his university studies in Economics.  Over the years he worked his way up to the position of Special Effects Key and became a licensed Pyrotechnician authorized to work throughout Canada.  He joined Local 700-M as a full member in 2002 and immediately became active within the local.  He volunteered on many local union committees and projects and eventually ran for the position of Senior Vice President.  After serving one term as Senior VP he ran and won for the Position of President which he is currently serving.

In addition to his duties and responsibilities as President of Local 700-M he is also the Freelance Representative on the Media Council Steering Committee and is one of two representatives from Ontario on the National Young Workers Committee for the CEP.  he was also the primary organizer in a campaign to organize film technicians in Ottawa on low budget productions

His Family is heavily involved in the film industry and within labour relations.  He has an older brother who is a SPFX Coordinator and is a member of Local 700 and a younger brother who is planning to become a Director of Photography.  His father is a former Pipefitter and currently works as a Labour Lawyer for many construction trade unions.  So it would seem he has managed to merge his love for Filmmaking and his interest in Labour Relations into the perfect career.  Representing Film and Television Technicians!
